            Hello, my name is Kerry Jerue and I would like to discuss how social media has enhanced our ability to advance in our careers. 

            Social Media has become a direct and common form of communication. Channels like Facebook and Twitter offer ways to reach a target audience that is more diverse and inclusive.  For example, just a few years ago we received significantly more snail mail through the post office.  After receiving these marketing pieces we then needed to make a call or research online to learn more about the product. But now these companies have online feeds to market through our Facebook and Twitter accounts linking us directly to the site so we can learn more quicker.

These tools also can be used to create a digital presence, to network with companies, and to advance your career. For example, I just created a digital presence for my small business.  I have started to promote my small business for my Etsy web store found at Etsy.com.  After launching the site I realized that I can share the link through my Facebook and Twitter accounts.  This approach of promoting within my resources and accounts, has allowed me to promote my business without spending any additional time or money to market the site.  This approach also has allowed me to share a taste of my products with my current contacts and to network with others to connect the site through Twitter and Facebook pages.  These tools allow for quick communication and updates for my small business, as well as growing my customer base by friends in both digital communities sharing my information with their contacts as well. Another way I have used these accounts with my small business is to generate awareness and promote upcoming events.
